Shilo Inn evacuated due to smoke

The Shilo Inn was evacuated Saturday after a hotel employee found smoke in the building.

Battalion Chief Cody Anderson with the Idaho Falls Fire Department said that hotel worker opened up the electrical closet and saw the smoke.

They immediately pulled the fire alarm, which resulted in a full first alarm response from the Fire Department.

“With a building like this, as many people as might be in there at one time, and the logistical problem that it is to get them all out, they did exactly the right thing,” said Anderson. “They saw what they thought was smoke, which it was, they pulled the fire alarm and started getting everyone out.”

Anderson says he believes the smoke probably came from the ballast inside the light fixture.
