Construction on downtown fire station begins Thursday

Construction of the N. Park Avenue fire station will begin with the demolition of the old Heaton Chiropractic building on April 21.

In order to keep the public safe from demolition activities, the east lane of the N. Park Avenue roadway will be closed from E Street to D Street beginning at 10 a.m. on April 21 and will remain closed until April 24. Traffic will be restricted to the right lane for one block.

Additional precautions include the closure of the sidewalk on the east side of the street and the alley running parallel to D and E Street between N Park Avenue and N Shoup Avenue.

Sidewalk users will be required to cross to the west side of the street, using the crosswalks at the intersections of Park Avenue and E Street or D Street.

Alley access will be prohibited for the duration of the project.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use caution, reduce speeds and comply with all traffic signs.

Barring unforeseen conditions, the total estimated project duration, including demolition and construction, is one year.
