Fewer people going hungry in east Idaho

Fewer people are going hungry according to a new study. “Map the Meal Gap” is the name of the study conducted by Feeding America, and it shows the food insecurity rate in east Idaho decreased from last year.

The Community Food Basket in Idaho Falls has seen a decrease in clients and the executive director, Bud Langerak thinks these new numbers may be because of Idaho’s low unemployment rate.

“We have noticed a trend down for about the last six months, which we’re very pleased with. We hope that it’s because the economy is improving and people are not in a position of food insecurity. Our numbers are down about 10-15 percent over last year,” said Langerak.

The Community Food Basket in Idaho Falls is now open on Saturdays. The Letter Carrier Food Drive in collaboration with three other major food organizations, will be coming up on Saturday, May 14.
