Man killed in Bingham County crash had stolen 3 vehicles that day

According to the Bingham County Sheriff’s office, the man killed in an accident Thursday morning was driving a stolen truck at the time. The truck was the third vehicle he had stolen that day.

Bingham County Sheriff Craig Rowland says James L. Barry, 33-years-old, had stolen a Ford truck north of Blackfoot that had a cattle trailer hooked to it. He drove the truck and trailer to 400 North then abandoned it. Barry then stole a 2nd truck, 2006 Ford pickup, and drove off but didn’t get very far before getting stuck in some nearby sand. Barry abandoned the 2nd truck and stole the 2007 Dodge Ram truck which he later wrecked in a rollover accident. Barry later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Sheriff Rowland says Idaho State Police is still investigating the incident. He says ISP is getting drug tests done to see if Barry might have been under the influence during the crash.

Rowland says Barry had no criminal history in Bingham County but that he did have several warrants out of California. Barry does have several past arrests in Bonneville County.
