Don’t be late to pay your property taxes

The second installment of property taxes is due Monday, and the Bonneville County Treasurer office will be open to accept payments.

Taxes are due in full December 20th, however, the law provides that as long as you pay the first installment there’s a grace period up until June 20th.

Bonneville County Treasurer Mark Hansen said you really don’t want to be late.

“The late charge is 2% if you go past the date. But with June 20th, because they are due in full in December, it’s a grace period. If you’re late even by a day interest begins Jan. 1. So if you come in on the 21st, you’ll have almost 8 percent of late charges in interest,” Hansen said.

Taxes need to make it to the office by 5 p.m. Monday or you can mail them but they do need to be postmarked on or before the 20th.

Forms of payments accepted are cash, money order and check.
