Updated: Man who led police on chase arrested on drug charges

Update 6/15/2016 11:55 am: Madison County Sheriff’s office has released additional details about a high-speed chase that took place in the county Tuesday.

According toMadison County Sherrif Deputy Captain Bruce Bowler after Williams left Rexburg city limits sheriff’s deputies caught up with him and attempted to pull him over again. Williams still did not pull over and deputies witnessed him tossing items out of the truck he was driving. The sheriff’s office says these were collected and are being tested as suspected drugs.

Williams is under arrested and is being charged by Madison County for drug and narcotics violations. Williams is currently in the hospital for injuries not related to the crash.

Original Story: An Idaho Falls man is the hospital after he led Rexburg Police, Idaho State Police, and Madison County Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase across the county.

Michael Williams of Idaho Falls, was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries. Rexburg Police are charging him with felony eluding.

According to Captain Randy Lewis,the chase started after a Rexburg Police officer attempted to stop the truck Williams was driving after noticing the plate on the vehicle was expired. Williams took off at a high rate of speed and began racing through Rexburg city streets at very high speeds. Officers backed off for safety at that time and observed Williams for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Eventually, Williams left the city and continued to evade officers at high speeds. Officers laid spike strips at 6800 South near Archer Highway. While attempting to avoid the spikes Williams rolled the truck and officers were able to arrest him.

The case is still under investigation.
