Jefferson County wants your ideas to develop land at county lake
Jefferson County wants your help to develop the island (technically a peninsula) in the middle of Jefferson Lake. The county is hoping by getting the public involved, more people will appreciate what’s built once it’s finished.
“So what we’d like is for people to come up with their best idea for what the island should look like. Draw it out on a 24 by 36 poster board, and bring it into the courthouse by Friday, June 24,” said Rebecca Squires, the director for Jefferson County Parks and Recreation Department.
The county said they’re relatively open to what people want and have a lot of options. “Knowing that we were going to do something different, there is an irrigation stub out there,” said Squires. “We can irrigate something. Do we want more grass and trees, do we want more beach area, do we want something completely different like an amphitheater, or something like that?”
Squires said the sky is the limit and encourages people to be creative. “We may not be able to do exactly what someone designs but we will certainly use the concept and the principle of it. Whomever wins this contest will have bragging rights to say ‘yea, that was my idea,'” said Squires.
Once county leaders go over all the submissions, they’ll pick their 10 favorites for the public to vote on at the July 2. celebration at the lake.
