D93 held meeting to discuss renewal of supplemental levy

Bonneville School District 93 board members held a ‘special meeting’ on Wednesday to discuss renewing the supplemental levy. The current levy will expire in 2017.

At the meeting, no action was taken to approve or decline putting the levy on the ballot for 2018. The financial committee was asked to come back with a more detailed breakdown of exactly what the levy funds within the district.

In case the levy does not pass in the next election, there will be cuts toward district funding and programs.

“Well, what would happen is most likely positions would be cut. Programs would be cut. We couldn’t reduce [teacher] salaries. And so, unfortunately, it would end up being programs, which then means people,” said April Burton, District 93’s chief financial officer.

The board will decide in future meetings which ballot to put the levy on.

In addition, the groundbreaking for the new high school is scheduled for July 29 at 5 p.m.
