Local woman heads to Texas to compete in national competition

A woman in Weston, Idaho was a semi-finalist in May for a spot on the show “Extreme Huntress.”

Now with the judges’ scores and public voting complete, results are in. Lindsay Christensen has made it to the final six and will be competing on the show.

During the competition, Christensen will go up against five other women in various hunting and skills tests chosen by the judges.

Christensen said normally her weapon of choice when hunting is a bow, but she said for the show she has to be an expert with more than arrows. So she’s been doing everything she can to prepare.

“I’ve been borrowing guns from a bunch of different people because I only have a few and so I’ve just been trying to shoot every kind of gun that I can shoot,” Christensen said. “I figured shooting shotguns was the fastest and cheapest way to break in my shoulder.”

Since the women have no idea what the challenges will be, Christensen has been watching previous episodes from the show to get ready.

“I’ve been getting an idea of what kind of skills challenges there’s been,” she said. “In the last couple of seasons there was a biathlon so I’ve been running every day, three to five miles a day, and trying to run with a pack on to add some extra weight.”

While on the show, judges will be on every hunt and every skills challenge with the women, scoring them on their abilities.

Christensen said it’s been a lot of work, but she’s thrilled to get to this point and compete.

“I’m so excited,” she said. “I consider it a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I don’t expect to ever do something like this again and I think this is one of the most prestigious awards that a woman in the hunting industry can achieve and so I’m excited about that.”

Of the six women on the show, only Christensen and one other are from the U.S. The other four are all from Canada.

Christensen will head to Triple 7 Ranch in Hondo, Texas July 10-15 to compete.

The show will run as a series of webisodes beginning the end of July. There will be a total of 26 episodes, one per week, through the first of January.

After each episode, people can go online and vote for their favorite. Judges scores and public voting will help determine the overall winner of the competition.

In January, the winner of “Extreme Huntress” 2017 will be announced at an awards ceremony in Dallas.

Episodes can be watched on getzone.com or on the Extreme Huntress website, where the public can also vote.
