Ammon approves Deseret Industries site plan

The Ammon City Council has approved a final plat for a new Deseret Industries Building.

City Manager Ron Folsum said the plan encompasses a 6.45 acre tract of land north of 17th Street and west of Piano Gallery with access from Trailwood Drive.

Deseret Industries has owned the property for many years. It is now commercially zoned and in compliance for development. The city of Ammon expects a site plan to be filed within a week.

Project Manager Kurt Roland of Eagle Rock Engineering said the 48,366 square foot building would house a new Deseret Industries retail store. It will also consolidate the Welfare and LDS Employment offices of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the same building.

The new building is being designed by JRW Architecture of Rexburg.

Deseret Industries marketing manager Brooke Yates said the building will replace the current Idaho Falls retail store. She said the current store has served the community well, but was beginning to get a little run down.

An exact date to begin construction has not been established. She said the construction team is also evaluating the future of the current Deseret Industries store location.

Yates explained that Deseret Industries is a training facility that helps people in the community who are down on their luck find productive employment.
