Rigby fires police chief

The Rigby City Council fired their Police Chief, Thursday night.

According to the City Clerk’s office, The vote was unanimous, 6 to 0 in favor of dismissal.

The city council made the decision in an executive session behind closed doors. The Council then voted in public, during their meeting.

Keith Hammon was named Police Chief in 2012.

The City Council didn’t explain why he was fired, they said it’s a personnel issue.

Last September, the Rigby mayor suggested to eliminate the police department and contract with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office to help reduce costs.

In December, the city council decided to keep the Police Department, but cut its annual budget by $90,000.

On Friday evening, former Chief Hammon released this statement (click here)
