Bonneville County woman dies after crashing into ditch

Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a woman who was found dead in a ditch after drifting some distance from her crashed car.

Bonneville County deputies responded to a vehicle crash in the 4000 block of East Ririe Highway at about 9:30 on Thursday morning. The deputies found a 2007 Toyota Camry upside down in a ditch on the north side of the road. The car was in water but no one was inside the car.

Crews began searching for the driver and at about 11 a.m. a farmer checking water in his field discovered the driver about a half mile downstream. The driver was already dead when she was found.

The driver was identified as 31-year-old Kira L. Bott of Bonneville County.

People living to the east of where the crash happened say they heard a loud noise Wednesday night around 11 p.m. but did not see anything when they went outside to check. The ditch is surrounded by tall weeds that prevented them from seeing the crash. The crash was spotted Thursday morning when a truck driver spotted the car from the higher viewpoint in his truck. He contacted Bonneville County dispatch.
