Wyoming voters decide November ballot

UPDATE: 8/18/16

Nikki Gill and Marvin “Trey” Davis will be the republican candidates for Teton County Commissioner in November.

Because Davis’ vote tally was close to Lisa Dacosta, it was originally thought there would be a mandatory recount of that race. However, County Clerk Sherry Daigle said a review with the Wyoming Secretary of State’s office determined there was no need.

The mandatory recount would have been for a margin of less than 11 votes. The margin between Dacosta and Davis was 34 votes.

Congress
Wyoming voters have selected Liz Cheney as the republican nominee for Congress in Tuesday’s primary election. Cheney, the daughter of former vice-president Dick Cheney, won 35,639 votes and bested her nearest challenger, Leland Christensen, who received 19,564 votes.

Cheney will face democrat Ryan Greene in the November election.

Teton County republicans overwhelmingly supported Christensen, of Alta, in his bid for the party’s congressional nomination. Christensen received 1,451 Teton County votes to Cheney’s 892. Cheney also claimed Teton County as home.

Christensen thanked his supporters. He said, in a statement, “as Wyoming continues to bear the brunt of a heavy-handed federal government, it is important we send a Republican to Washington. As a party we must now unite to put Wyoming first as we head into the general election.”

Jackson Mayor
Jackson voters will see a choice between incumbent Mayor Sara Flitner and Pete Muldoon for Mayor in November. In Tuesday’s primary, Muldoon received 780 votes to Flitner’s 752.

Mark Obringer received 494 votes and Stephen McDonald got 194. The top two vote-getters appear on the November ballot.

SPET
Jackson voters approved a $6 million allocation of the 1 percent Special Purpose Excise (sales) Tax to help pay for stabilizing the landslide above the West Broadway and Budge Drive intersection.

The final vote was 3,475, or 63.03 percent in favor and 1,917 against.

Teton County Commission
Nikki Gill led republican candidates for County Commissioner with 1,528 votes.

Because the vote was so close, there will be an automatic recount Tuesday to name a second GOP candidate for the fall ballot. Trey Davis collected an unofficial 1,106 votes Tuesday and Lisa Dacosta scored 1,072.

On the democratic ticket, Greg Epstein and Natalia Macker will appear on the November ballot.
