Firefighters do battle with regional fires

The Eastern Idaho Interagency Fire Center is managing several small fires in the region.

The 4.1 acre Rattlesnake Island fire was reported Saturday. It is burning about 8 miles east of Heise Hot Springs on an island located on the South Fork of the Snake River. Bonneville County jet-boated several firefighting crews to the island to extinguish the flames. The fire was believed to be human-caused and is currently under investigation.

The Kyle Canyon fire also started Saturday. It is estimated at one tenth of an acre, about nine miles northeast of Howe and was quickly contained.

The Toponce fire is now 80 percent contained. Located about 16 miles east of Chubbuck, there was minimal fire activity on the 265 acre fire over the weekend. 151 firefighting personnel are assigned to it.
