“Maid in the Shade” offers history to Eastern Idaho

The exhibition of ‘Maid in the Shade’ has made it’s way to Eastern Idaho. The Flying Legends of Victory Summer Air Show Tour will be showcasing the World War ll bomber.

The Commemorative Air Force’s B-25 Bomber took 28 years to restore and only flew for seven years. The plane also operates on the same engines it used during its time in service.

It was made famous in the 1942 Doolittle Raid and the Film 30 Seconds Over Tokyo.

War veterans were invited to check out the war bird first hand and take a flight in it.

Some veterans said the flight brought them back in time.

Verlen Lauder served as a paratrooper and fought in the battle of the Bulge with the 100 and first division.

“I jumped in France on D-Day, jumped in Holland and I fought,” Lauder said.

War veteran Robert Jones said during the flight he remembered that planes like these were used to bomb Tokyo.

“I enlisted in the Army Air Corps right out of high school. So I trained as a fighter pilot,” Jones said.

The B-25 landed at the Idaho Falls Regional Airport, it will be on exhibit for the public to climb inside and tour from Aug. 23 through 28.
