Bonneville Hotel project wins approval
The Idaho Falls Redevelopment Agency has selected The Housing Company (THC) to renovate the historic Bonneville Hotel in downtown Idaho Falls.
The company, partnered with Myers Anderson Architects and Bateman Hall Contractors, plans a mix of commercial and residential activity in the building.
The $10.8 million project will be financed through a variety of tax credits, grants, and conventional bank financing. In its proposal, THC said one of the most difficult components of the project will be bringing the building into compliance with current building, health and safety codes.
According to its proposal, THC said the scope of work would include full demolition of the interior of the building. Existing kitchens and bathrooms, plumbing, and electrical facilities will be replaced.
The main level will include up to three commercial spaces and five residential units. The upper floors will provide approximately 32 units of housing, 4 studios, 4 two-bedroom units and 24 one-bedroom units.
The company said it would work with existing tenants of the building to help them find reasonable and comparable housing.
The Housing Company is a Boise based non-profit developer. Myers Anderson is based in Pocatello and Bateman Hall is based in Idaho Falls.
The Redevelopment Agency oversees an urban renewal district that was originally established in 1966 and expires in 2018. Its current projects include Spring Hill, Riverwalk Drive, the Kelsch Corner (former Saving Center grocery on Broadway), and the Bonneville Hotel.
