Teachers celebrate the public education system
On Friday, Bingham County teachers got together to celebrate the start of the new school year. Their guest speaker was nationally recognized educator, Jamie Vollmer.
“Public education is the most important enterprise of our time. Now that the kids are all coming back, too, everyone even needs to understand that for almost every single person working inside your schools, forty hours a week does nothing. Fifty hours, sixty hours is routine. The people working inside your schools today have never done a better job then they’re doing right now, and they need it to be praised for that,” said Vollmer.
Educators from all over the county were able to enjoy lunch, vendors and some fun raffle prizes. This event was a way for all public educators in the area to come together and celebrate the positive of public education.
“I think we can sometimes, possibly as educators, get down on ourselves with media and politics and many other things. This is a great time to be in education. There is never been more exciting things happening, so we’re excited to get together and show the positive,” said sixth-grade Blackfoot Heritage teacher, Nicole Robinson.
“I think it was a fantastic opportunity to really see the positive side of public education. And I feel really good about the presentation that was made, and really grateful for Blackfoot for hosting us here,” said Snake River School District Superintendent Dave Kerns.
“We do marvelous miracles every day in the classrooms. And we just want to celebrate what they do, and the passion and love they bring to the children of our community,” said Blackfoot School District Superintendent Brian Kress.
