Rose Road Interchange getting a makeover

The Idaho Transportation Department project will be bringing changes to the I-15/Road Road Interchange — all in the name of safety.

One part of the project is to replace the bridge going across the interstate with a wider one. The reason being it’s been hard for a driver to have enough safe space between another car when one comes from the opposite direction.

“It is not wide enough to accommodate vehicles coming from both directions,” said Adam Rush, ITD’s public involvement coordinator.

Part of the problem is the growing size of cars and trucks.

“They’re getting larger and wider. The length of their trailers they use to haul cargo and goods is increasing in size as well,” he said.

The other part of the project is to update all on-ramps and off-ramps for exit 98. The plan right now is to make them longer and have them curve less.

ITD is still accepting any comments or concerns about the project. They will be accepted until Oct. 2. You can send them to Rush at adam.rush@itd.idaho.gov, fax them to 208-334-8563 or mail them to: Idaho Transportation Department, Attn: Adam Rush, 3311 W. State Street, Boise, ID 83703.

Construction is set to begin in 2018.
