Utah school evacuated after suspect makes threats; none hurt

Authorities say a suspect is in custody after a Utah elementary school was evacuated when a man allegedly said that there were explosives in his car, which was parked near the building.

The Deseret News reports that about 250 students along with faculty were evacuated from Eagle Valley Elementary Monday afternoon.

The paper says that no explosives were found and there were no reports of injury.

Officials say 35-year-old Christopher Dewitt Craig of Eagle Mountain was arrested after three hours of negotiations. He was described as a former college basketball coach.

Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon says Craig complained about “social injustices, but adds that a precise motive was still being investigated and may be related to mental health issues.
