Idaho State Police seeing good progress on its new building

Construction on the new Idaho State Police building for District 5 in Pocatello is coming along and is making great progress. Capt. Eric Dayley said the recent rain has caused a few problems for construction crews, but everything is still on schedule.

The walls are now up and most of the exterior framing is complete on the building. The roof is about 60% finished. Crews are working to finish the roof and close in the exterior before bad weather hits.

The new building is about 23,000 square feet. It will include a forensics unit, investigations, patrol, training facilities and an armory. There will be three forensics labs, as well as evidence storage. There will also be plenty of office space.

The building will bring all of Pocatello’s ISP divisions together under one roof. Currently, the divisions are spread across three separate buildings.

ISP said it will enhance communication and help make things more efficient. Dayley said he’s excited and it’s been fun to watch the construction process so far.

“I still think, ‘Wow, it’s huge,'” Dayley said. “And I knew it was going to be big, but it just looks so big now that the walls are up and everything but again, it’s very exciting and everybody’s thrilled about it.”

Dayley said the building is scheduled to be finished by May 15. He said ISP does plan to have an open house once the building is finished.
