Grizzly bear killed on park road

A male grizzly bear was killed after it was struck by a vehicle on US Highway 89/26/191 early Sunday. Grand Teton National Park rangers said a passing motorist spotted the 260-pound bear carcass south of Cunningham Cabin and notified authorities. An unattended, damaged vehicle was found about a mile north of the carcass. Rangers said evidence on the vehicle and at the scene tied the vehicle to the accident. The driver was contacted later and said the accident happened about 5:30 a.m. Sunday. No citations were issued. Rangers are reminding drivers to be alert when driving through the park, as animals are migrating this time of year. A 45 mile-per-hour night-time speed limit is in force on US Highway 89/191/287.
