High School Students Learn About Dangers of Substance Abuse
High school students from all over Idaho Falls learned the dangers of substance abuse Friday.
The event was coordinated by the Bonneville Youth Development Council.
It took place at the Fairbridge Inn in Idaho Falls, where students put goggles on to experience what it is like to function while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The students were separated into groups
.
They were able to ride a tricycle with drunk goggles and try to navigate a maze with marijuana goggles.
“As soon as you put the goggles on, you couldn’t see the lines and the red went away, so you didn’t know if your pen was on or not. So, it kind of made your brain stop. When you’re driving there’s the stoplights and then there’s having the red signs and certain things like that. If there’s a stoplight or a stop sign, you’re not going to see it when you’re high because you can’t see the color red,” 9th grader Kassi Halbrook said.
This year was the 11th annual “Trapped Sober” event from the Bonneville Youth Development Council.
