Idaho Sheriff whose deputies shot rancher is re-elected

A west-central Idaho sheriff whose deputies were involved in the fatal shooting of a rancher has been re-elected.

Adams County Sheriff Ryan Zollman received about 1,400 votes in Tuesday’s election, while challenger Thomas Watts received about 800.

Rancher Jack Yantis was killed in November 2015 after one of his bulls was hit by a car.

Yantis arrived with a rifle just as two deputies decided to put down the animal. Authorities have said there was an altercation, and Yantis and the two deputies all fired their weapons.

Both deputies have left the sheriff’s office.
