Two cattle rustlers plead guilty in Bingham County

Two brothers have pleaded guilty to cattle rustling after they were accused of stealing a total of 16 cows on two separate occasions.

Anselmo Lopez and Valentin Lopez both pleaded guilty to the charges in Bingham County Monday. Both brothers face up to 28 years in prison and/or $10,000 in fines.

Anselmo Lopez pleaded guilty to two separate counts of grand theft. The first count was for stealing nine cows and the second for stealing 7 more. Each charge carries the possibility of 14 years in prison and/or $5,000 in fines.

Valentin Lopez pleaded guilty to helping his brother and two other men steal cows between December 2015 and April 2016. He also pleaded guilty to stealing 7 cows in December 2014. Each charge carries the possibility of 14 years in prison and/or $5,000 in fines.

Both men will be sentenced after a presentencing investigation. That sentencing is scheduled for January 23, 2017.
