Shelley woman sentenced for insurance fraud

Cristian D. Ceja-Aguilar, 33, of Shelley has been sentenced to a two-year fixed sentence and three-year determinate sentence for insurance fraud. Ceja-Aguilar appeared before 7th District Judge Dane Watkins Monday.

According to the Idaho Attorney General’s office, the court suspended the sentence and placed Ceja-Aguilar on four years of probation. She was ordered to perform 150 hours of community service and pay a $1,000 fine, plus court costs.

The Bingham County woman pleaded guilty to one count of felony insurance fraud on August 9. By pleading guilty, she admitted she provided Geico insurance a false statement when she reported her 2003 Chevy Avalanche was insured at the time of an accident.

Geico referred the case to the Idaho Department of Insurance Fraud Investigation Unit. The case was prosecuted by the Idaho Attorney General’s office.
