District 25 supplemental levy up for renewal, will stay the same
Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25’s supplemental levy will be up for it’s biennial vote in March 2017. However, unlike 2015, the levy will stay the same at $9.25 million.
Jackie Cranor, District 25’s school board chair, said district directors felt comfortable with their dollars and felt the current levy was fine. She also added Idaho’s 2016 Legislature reversing recession-era cuts definitely helped, too.
This year, the Legislature brought school funding levels back to 2009 levels. While it’s added a little cushion for the district, Cranor is still hopeful the levels will catch up to current standards soon.
“We feel that we can still maintain where we’re at and function appropriately,” she said “We’re hoping (the Legislature) continues to raise our funding to the current needs.”
Cranor also said taxpayers will benefit most, since the 20-year bond passed in 1996 to build Century High School and fix up Pocatello High School has been paid off.
The levy only needs a simple majority to pass.
