Idaho AG reaches settlement with telemarketing company
Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden has reached a settlement with a telemarketing company that used deceptive practices while soliciting customers.
Wasden announced the settlement with Caldwell-based US Registration, Inc. on Wednesday, the Idaho Press-Tribune reported. The company primarily sells compliance services to commercial truck drivers.
Officials say the company called purchasers who recently obtained U.S. Department of Transportation numbers and implied the company was affiliated with the U.S. Department of Transportation and told them they needed to finish the USDOT registration process and pay a federal tax to operate across state lines.
Under the settlement, US Registration must register with the Attorney General’s Office before it telemarkets again, and must clearly state to customers that it is calling to sell its services. It also must return all requested refunds from its customers, who have until Jan. 16 to request refunds.
