New downtown Idaho Falls Fire Dept. station building progress

Construction of the new fire station in downtown Idaho Falls is on schedule. KIFI/KIDK was able to get a quick peek inside Wednesday afternoon to see the progress.

The building is 24,000 square feet which is more than double the size of the old building. There are 15 offices downstairs for the department’s administrative staff, and four double bays for the engines and ambulances. Upstairs will house 11 firefighters with a spacious kitchen, workout room, computer training room, bathrooms, and an entertainment room nicknamed “The Cave.”

“We’re very excited about the project. It’s on time right now. We were able to get everything we needed to do before the real winter hit as far as our concrete. And we’re excited about getting into this in a few months down the road,” said Fire Chief Dave Hanneman.

The Idaho Falls Fire Department is scheduled to move in this coming March.
