Pocatello man hit by accused drunken driver to be taken off life-support
A Pocatello man hit by an accused drunken driver in September will be taken off life-support.
Justin Kynaston was hit by a car near Westwood Mall on Sept. 25. The driver of the car Brandi Christensen, 30, was arrested and booked into Bannock County Jail for aggravated driving under the influence after the crash.
In a post on Facebook Thursday, Justin’s mom wrote, “This is a post I never wanted to have to make but after a family meeting with all of Justin’s doctors today we are having to make the decision to let him pass away peacefully or let him live a life he would not choose for himself.”
In September, Justin’s mother told KIFI/KIDK, her son had been out drinking but did the responsible thing and was walking home, rather than driving. Investigators say Justin was hit around 1:50 in the morning. His injuries at the time were considered life-threatening.
Justin’s family was hopeful he would survive.
“His brain has had too much damage to ever recover from and he will be in a coma for the rest of his life if we choose to let him live,” Justin’s mother continued in her post. “Thank you all for your love and support! Our hearts are broken but we want to do what’s best for Justin.”
Pocatello police have not said if additional charges will be filed.
A GoFundMe has been established to help Justin’s family. You can find it by clicking here.
