Rigby man charged with homicide by vehicle after crash in Wyoming

A Rigby man has been arrested and charged with homicide by a vehicle after the semi he was driving rear-ended another vehicle and killed a passenger.

According to Wyoming Highway Patrol, 45-year-old Jaysen Thompson was arrested for his role in the crash that killed Kacie Ketchum of Helena, Montana Wednesday.

Wyoming Highway Patrol says that Ketchum was the passenger in a 1993 Chevrolet Blazer SUV that was being driven by 24-year-old Bryan Silverthorn of Columbus, Ohio. The SUV was traveling west on I-80 near milepost 395 when it was rear-ended by a 2016 Freightliner semi truck being driven by Thompson.

Ketchum was not wearing her seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries on scene.

Bryan Silverthorn was wearing his seat belt, was transported by ground ambulance to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming and was hospitalized.

Kayla Lemmings, a 24-year-old resident of Billings, Montana, was also a passenger in the Chevy Blazer. She was wearing her seat belt, was transported by helicopter ambulance to a medical facility in Scottsbluff, Nebraska and has been hospitalized.

Thompson was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured.

Thompson has been booked into the Laramie County Detention Center in Cheyenne. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
