Missing Utah man is safe
UPDATE: 12-21-16 11:15 a.m.
West Jordan, Utah police said Paul Meiling was in Pocatello to donate historic books to Idaho State University.
On his way home, Meiling detoured to see Hawkins Reservoir west of the Virginia exit of Interstate 15.
Police said Meiling’s car got stuck and he decided to start a fire and camp until morning.
Early Wednesday he hiked to an area where he got adequate cellular phone service to call for help.

Idaho Civil Air Patrol Incident Commander Mike Vorachek says West Jordan Police have called off their search for Paul Meiling,77, of West Jordan. According to Vorachek, the man apparently decided to spend the night in Arimo, Idaho, but did not immediately notify his family. When his son notified police, they ended the search. ORIGINAL STORY:
The family of a 77-year old man is worried he is missing somewhere between Pocatello and the Salt Lake City area.
West Jordan Police Department said Paul Meiling drove to Pocatello on Monday
The family reported his last known location was at the Costco gas station in Pocatello around noon. Pocatello Police said they checked surveillance video and could find no evidence he was there.
Paul is described as 6′ 2″ tall and weighs 220 pounds.
He was last seen driving a white 2010 Toyota Tundra carrying a shell with Utah license plate B02 8FJ.
The family is worried he may have suffered a heart attack while driving and may have crashed. They’re also worried he may have taken a frontage or back road on his return to Pocatello.
