Elementary enrollment steadily increases within Bonneville School District
Enrollment into the Bonneville School District keeps increasing. The school board met Thursday to talk about current and future growth within its elementary schools.
The board looked at undeveloped residential lots around schools’ boundaries to see how many homes would be built over the next couple of years. More homes, means more kids — so this is how the board tries to gage the amount of students the district will get in the future.
“It’s hard to predict how many students will be in a home once that home is sold. How boundaries can shift, How enrollment’s going to change. Where are construction companies willing to build houses, and what impact it will have on our school district?” asked Heath Jackson, principal at Bonneville High School, who was also in charge of the report.
Every year the board predicts about a 2 percent growth for kindergarteners and a 1 percent increase for other grade levels in the district.
