“Turn and Test” before the weekend is over
The American Red Cross is reminding you to “turn and test”.
This means, remember to *turn your clocks ahead this weekend and it’s a great time to *test your smoke detectors.
Your smoke detectors can mean the difference between life and death, especially at night when people are usually sleeping.
Idaho Falls fire battalion chief, Cody Anderson said putting a smoke detector in each room of your home and each hallway is the best protection.
At minimum, you should put at least one smoke detector on each floor, according to the American Red Cross.
“We probably go on about 50 house fires a year on average and of those 50 house fires, we routinely find houses that don’t working smoke detectors,” Anderson said.
He said your home should also have a carbon monoxide detector, especially if you have gas appliances.
Tips to help make sure your household is prepared for emergencies are:
Install smoke alarms Practice an escape plan Get a kit Be informed
