Update: Police arrest man carrying a gun outside of Pocatello High School
UPDATE 1:20 p.m: Pocatello Police have released the name of the man arrested near Pocatello High School Friday morning.
18-year-old Michael T. Randall was arrested for a warrant, possessing a weapon on school property, and carrying a concealed weapon while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
Randall is not a student at Pocatello High School. No additional information about the situation has been released at this time. A photo of Randall is not available at this time.
UPDATE: 9:19 A.M.
Pocatello Police have canceled a public safety alert near Pocatello High School.
A suspect has been located and is currently being detained by police.
No further information has yet been released.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Pocatello High School will be on controlled access today after two students spotted a man with a gun walking south on Garfield near the school.
The students saw a man at around 6:20 a.m. wearing a zippered hoodie with the hood up, a half face mask depicting a skull with blood, and blue jeans. They said the man was carrying a green and black baseball bat and displayed a small black handgun. He did not point the gun.
According to the boys, the man did not say anything and continued walking south of Garfield.
Police have been searching the area and have not located anyone in the area matching the description.
