ISU in need of whole body donations
Instead of cremating your body after you pass away, or be buried underground, Idaho State University is suggesting another option.
The ISU Biological Science Department is looking for whole body donations for their anatomy lab.
Professor Jeff Muldrum, said while they do use a virtual cadaver, nothing can replace hands on experience.
“I would much prefer to be operated on by a physician who had the opportunity to dissect a real body as opposed to one that learned their fundamental basics anatomy from off of a computer,” Muldrum commented.
As of right now ISU relies on the University of Utah for some of their cadavers. But local whole body donations gives ISU more freedom in how long they can use the donations.
“We can obtain the bodies for a bit longer and employee them in more educational settings and expose more students to that experience. So it is preferable as a state that we be independent,” said Muldrum.
Muldrum added, they are so thankful for whole body donations and remind their students of the great privilege they have. After the cadavers cannot be used any longer, they are cremated. The family can either take the ashes or the ashes will be buried in the Pocatello cemetery.
