Sugar City dog travels 40 miles to find her way home

A Sugar City dog is back home after venturing off more than a month ago. How she got home is nothing less than a miracle.

“Cookie” ventured off from the Idaho Falls Stockyard while her owners, Diane and Bruce Ricks, were dropping off some calves.

“She was in the back of the pickup,” Diane said. “When he got out to unload the calves, she jumped out.”

The stockyards are about 40 miles from the Ricks’ home.

“She had run off,” Diane said.

That run was a run that continued for miles. Cookie showed up back at home on Tuesday.

“We didn’t ever think that she was ever going to come home,” Diane said. “We thought that somebody had picked her up or she had hopped into someone’s pickup.”

The Ricks’ said Cookie is one lucky dog, having found her way home from downtown Idaho Falls to rural Sugar City.

“If she could talk, what a story she would have to tell,” Diane said.

Cookie is in perfect health, just like when she took off.
