Pocatello Police said ISP detectives shot at vehicle after it hit a state trooper

During a press conference Friday morning, law enforcement officials discussed the police involved shooting that happened on March 27th.

Captain Roger Shei said they were informed that Idaho State Police detectives were doing an investigation when they saw Rocco Chacon Jr and knew Chacon had some warrants out for his arrest. ISP conducted a “high risk” stop. Officers identified themselves as police, and Chacon revved his car engine. Chacon attempted to get away and his car struck a state trooper that was in front of his car.

Captain Schei, said three ISP detectives then shot at the vehicle.

Six ISP detectives followed Chacon South on Olympus to Pocatello Creek Road.

After the car chase ended, Chacon got out of his car and tried to run away. Detectives then realized a second person was in the car. Shaylee Williamson, 20, suffered some injuries from the gun fire. ISP detectives then took out their medical kits and provided medical attention to both Williamson and Chacon.

After the Pocatello Police Department conducts their review of the situation, the ISP will conduct an internal review. And evaluate if their is any procedures or training that needs to be done in the department.

The two were taken to the Portneuf Medical Center.

The investigation into the officer involved shooting, will likely be turned over to the Twin Falls prosecutors to determine if the Idaho State Troopers involved should face any criminal charges.

Captain Shei said this is still an active investigation.

At this time, there is no information on Williamson’s condition.
