Potato Museum gets makeover in-time for summer
The Idaho Potato Museum is gearing up for visitors now that the weather is warming up.
“This year is going to be an outstanding year,” Executive director Tish Dahman said.
Dahman said there are new reservations and more food!
“Amazing chocolate potato cupcakes,” she said. “We’re bringing in a new supplier from Shelley. They do jerky. They do buffalo jerky, turkey jerky.”
The cafe officially opened earlier this month.
Cafe Chef Katherine Maddock said the cafe is working to provide only local or homemade foods.
“The homemade potato salad. I’m doing homemade potato soup,” Maddock said. “Sausage, gravy, cheddar broccoli; everything we’re trying to do is in house and then we’re pulling the stuff in from local companies as well. Just trying to support the area around us basically.”
Maddock explains she tries to ensure her visitors get the experience they deserve.
“Just a really go potato, a really good meal. You know, that’s what I try to strive for. Just like a really big comfort meal or you know, just a light snack if you’re just traveling through. I just want them (visitors) to be happy,” Maddock said.
The museum is expecting over 20,000 people and with the total eclipse happening in August, more traffic is expected.
“We have t-shirts coming, we have of course, the eclipse glasses and we have these amazing handmade truffles that are called galaxy truffles and they are a replica of every planet in our solar system,” Dahmen said.
Dahmen explained even the Kaboose has been renovated.
“An outdoor washroom facility so that people coming in by bus or if they just want to stop by and they don’t want to go into the museum, that’s open and there for them,” Dahman said.
A couple of first-timers from Montana also paid a visit to the museum.
“We were passing through. We went down to Utah and then we found out that this was on the way. We wanted to learn more about potatoes!” (butt to) Saw some reviews online. Saw that people really enjoyed it,” first-timer Reisa Kim said.
