Rigby police investigate prowler incidents, warn residents to be alert
Officials with the Rigby Police Department are warning citizens to be on alert after taking reports of a prowler in town.
According to officers, they responded to a prowler call on April 6 and again in the overnight hours of Saturday, April 15. Neighbors who live near the incident on Saturday have expressed concerns on the Facebook page I love Rigby Idaho.
“Attention everyone who lives on Third Street West and Caribou Street,” Emily Donee Lynn Tibbittts wrote on the Facebook page. “Again, my sister had the man try to break into her apartment, in the room my niece and nephew sleep in.”
Rigby police chief Sam Tower confirms investigators are currently assigned to both cases. Tower says in the incident on the April 15, a couple heard a weird noise on their baby monitor. When they went to check, they noticed a man outside the window. A male inside the home grabbed a gun and chased the individual into a canal, but the man was eventually able to leave the area in a car waiting at the end of the road.
Tower said both cases are likely related and officers do have a suspect.
“These things take time,” Tower said in a phone call with KIFI/KIDK. “People would like us to walk into houses and shake chains, but we have to follow due process.”
In its original Facebook post regarding the April 6 incident, the police department described the suspect from the April 6 incident as a white male, approximately 6-feet tall, wearing a mismatching track or sweat suit in dark colors. The suspect had a heavy build and was described as having a nose that was too small for his face. Police say they do have leads in this incident.
“Please keep in mind that as the weather warms, it is expected that these types of incidents will increase, but are still very rare in our city,” the police department’s post goes on to say.
Anyone with information, or who sees something suspicious, is encouraged to call the Rigby Police Department.
