Chubbuck’s Chipotle Mexican Grill victim of malware targeting customer information

Diners at Chubbuck’s Chipotle Mexican Grill may have recently fallen victim to identity theft after the company was hit by a cyber hacking earlier this year, the company said.

According to the company’s website, the Chubbuck location fell victim to malware between March 27 and April 18.

The company announced Friday it had identified and removed malware installed by hackers that lifted customer credit card data earlier this year. An investigation done by Chipotle found the malware was designed to access payment card data from cards used during point-of-sale.

Nearly all Chipotle locations were targeted.

“There is no indication that other customer information was affected,” Chipotle said on its website; however, the company is urging customers to report any unauthorized charges.

Chipotle previously reported news of the hack on April 25 during a business meeting.

“We continue to support law enforcement’s investigation and are working with the payment card networks so that the banks that issue payment cards can be made aware and initiate heightened monitoring,” the company said on its website.
