EIRMC’S new integrated surgical robotics suite

Eastern Idaho Medical Center opened its surgical robotics suite Friday.

The suite holds the da Vinci Surgical Robot and a new high-definition laproscopic video system. This technology helps the medical center perform minimally invasive procedures, and now, this entire room is dedicated to just that.

“In this particular robotics suite, we don’t have to worry about moving equipment in and out of the room. Everything the patient could need would be in this room. And the room is large enough, being 800 square feet, that we have enough room for all the staff — the surgeons — to all move around,” Barry Hawthorne, the administrative director for surgical, emergency room and trauma services at EIRMC, said.

EIRMC said having a fully integrated room such as this one will help keep it at the forefront of robotic and laparoscopic surgery.
