Rainfall cause flooding concerns in East Idaho
Monday morning wasn’t without it’s fair share of thunderstorms and steady rainfall in part of eastern Idaho, including parts of Pocatello that could see up to half an inch of rain by Tuesday.
The National Weather Service said, while there is no cause for concern for flooding in Pocatello, meteorologists are keeping their eyes on the areas between Driggs and Island Park, where a flood watch is currently in place.
NWS Meteorologist John Hinsberger said those areas could see significant rainfall within the next 24-48 hours.
“We’ll be monitoring those areas just in case we need to pull the trigger to put a flood warning in place,” Hinsberger said.
As for the Pocatello, he said it’s unlikely that area will see any flash flooding, but said we could expect to see a steady rainfall becoming more continuous over the next couple of days, with increased flows in the Portneuf River and some tributaries that feed into the Snake River.
We will update this page throughout the day as we receive more information.
