June is Adopt-A-Cat Month

June is National Adopt a Cat month. It is also the time of year when shelters start seeing a lot more animals being brought in.

“You start to see a significant amount [cats] in May and June. The kittens start coming, the pregnant cats start coming. Currently we have about 6-8 cats nursing kittens in the back of the shelter,” commented Rhett Nicks, the Director of Animal Services at the Pocatello Animal Shelter.

For the month of June, places the Pocatello Animal Shelter discounts cat adoption fees, to encourage the community to adopt a shelter cat or kitten.

Cats are low maintenance compared to other animals, making them the puurfect match for a busy family.

“They are pretty low maintenance on the scale of pets to keep. I mean they are not gold fish, but they are pretty close,” Rhett said.

And whatever you want to call them, tomcats, felines, cats, kittens, alley cats…some people say the furry creatures make suburb couch potato companions.

“To be honest, there is nothing better than hanging out with your cat on a Saturday in pajamas and binge watching Netflix for yeah know like five or six hours,” laughed Nicks.
