Victims in Highway 30 fatal crash identified

UPDATE 11:18 p.m.: Teen siblings and a 70-year-old Nampa man have been identified as those involved in a fatal head-on crash outside of McCammon Sunday afternoon.

Idaho State Police said Eric Neibaur, 15, was westbound on Highway 30 in a Chevy pickup when he crossed the center line and hit a Chevy Suburban driven by Jay Lanningham, 70, of Nampa.

Neibaur, his sister, Lauren, 13, and Lanningham were all killed. A juvenile passenger in Lanningham’s was car flown by air ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello.

The crash happened around 12:42 p.m. Sunday near milepost 360.

Neibaur was a member of the Century High School football team.

“We’re still caught off guard by the news,” Century’s head football coach, Travis Hobson said. “Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Neibaur family and all those involved. Eric’s football family is ready whenever his family needs us.”

Counselors will be on hand at Century High School starting at 11 a.m. Monday.

Everyone involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts. All lanes of Highway 30 were shut down for about 5.5. hours.

UPDATE: 5:49 p.m.: The following is a press release from Idaho State Police:

On Sunday, June 18, 2017, at approximately 12:42 P.M., Idaho State Police investigated a fatal crash on US30 at milepost 360, near McCammon, ID.

A juvenile was driving westbound on US30 in a red 1999 Chevrolet C1500 pickup truck. The pickup crossed the center line into the eastbound lane of travel and collided with a white 2011 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by Jay Lanningham, age 70, of Nampa, ID.

The juvenile driver and a juvenile passenger in the red Chevrolet pickup succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the crash, along with Lanningham. Lanningham had a juvenile passenger who was transported by air ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, ID. All occupants were wearing a seatbelt.

Both lanes of travel were blocked for approximately five and a half hours.

Next of kin has been notified.

UPDATE 2:36 p.m.: The Bannock County Sheriff’s Office confirms three people are dead in a fatal head-on crash outside of McCammon.

Highway 30 in both directions is closed. There is no estimated time of it being re-opened.

ORIGINAL STORY: Emergency crews from several agencies are responding to a fatal head-on crash on Highway 30 near McCammon.

The Bannock County Sheriff’s Office got the call about the crash around 12:45 p.m. Sunday. A 911 dispatcher confirmed to KIFI/KIDK there are “fatalities” but could not say how many people were killed.

The crash happened about 1 mile off Interstate 15 near milepost 365.

Idaho State Police, along with the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office, are responding to the crash. A medical helicopter is also en route.

Highway 30 in both directions is closed. Idaho State Police said it will likely be closed for several hours.
