Sturgeon released into Upper Snake River
More sturgeon have been released into the Snake River.
Idaho Fish and Game says these fish are becoming increasingly popular with anglers.
About 40 sturgeon were released into John’s Hole, about 40 to 50 in Gem Lake and another 50 were released below Gem Lake Dam.
IDFG said sturgeon help even out the Idaho fishing landscape.
Their population is growing, and in the next 10 to 20 years, officials expect the sturgeon to grow to seven or eight feet in length. The fish can live up to 60 years.
Officials remind anglers you can catch these fish, but you have to release them. They can’t be taken out of the water.
