New Idaho Falls police chief scheduled to start in August

Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper said her pick for a new police chief for the city will begin his duties the week of Aug.14.

Casper appointed Chief Bryce Johnson of Juneau, Alaska as the new chief of police last week.

Johnson has been the chief of the Juneau Police Department since June 2013 and before that spent 21 years moving through the ranks within the Salt Lake City Police Department as watch command, tactical commander and assistant bureau commander.

The city says the confirmation vote has been scheduled for the City Council meeting Thursday
