Grassroots Democracy of Idaho holding conference for pilot program
The Grassroots Democracy of Idaho will be holding a conference Sat. July 15 to get people more interested and involved in government.
Its overall goal is to get people all around civically involved. It focuses on three ideas: civic education, civic engagement and community betterment. It aims to teach people about their voting and civic rights. J.D. Wardell, founder of Grassroots, said most people don’t know all the specifics about their rights.
Grassroots wants to show people both how to get involved in government processes and why they should care about doing so.
“Either we as citizens stand up and start getting invovled the way that it should or our local government and our national government and just government in general, will continue to do what they want with no accountability,” Wardell said. “We are the checks and balances and so I believe this kind of conference and this kind of organization is so essential.”
The conference will be held at the Marshall Public Library in Pocatello on July 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’s free to attend. People can attend all the available workshops, just one workshop or as many as preferred.
This is the pilot program for Grassroots. It will be holding three conferences across the state this year. Next year, it hopes to bump that number to seven.
More information can be found on its Facebook page. You can also call 208-380-8673 for more information. Wardell said for the conference, anyone can just show up.
