Nye confirmed as U.S. District Court judge
The U.S. Senate has unanimously confirmed the appointment of Judge David C. Nye to serve as District Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho. Nye is currently a Judge in the 6th Judicial District in Pocatello. Nye was initially nominated by President Obama last year and again by President Trump this year. The nomination did not get a Senate vote in the last Congress. Nye will fill a judgeship vacated by District Judge Edward J. Lodge, who took senior status on July 3, 2015. Judge Nye has served as a judge on the Sixth District Court of Idaho since 2007, presiding over civil and criminal matters. Prior to coming on to the state court bench, he engaged in private practice with the law firm of Merrill & Merrill, Chartered, in Pocatello, where he specialized in malpractice and insurance law. He joined the firm as an associate in 1987, becoming a partner in 1989. Judge Nye received his B.A. from Brigham Young University in 1982 and his J.D. from BYU’s J. Reuben Clark Law School, in 1986. Following law school, he clerked for Judge George G. Granata of the Fifth Judicial District Court of Idaho from 1986 to 1987. Federal district court judges are nominated by the president, confirmed by the Senate and serve lifetime appointments.
