One person hospitalized in Jackson condo fire

UPDATE; 7-12 Fire investigators blame an unattended candle in a bedroom as the cause of a fire at a Jackson condominium July 10. “The occupant is lucky to be alive,” said Battalion Chief Brian Coe. “There were no working smoke alarms in the unit and the occupant awoke when he felt flames on the bed where he was sleeping.” ORIGINAL STORY One person was hospitalized after an early-morning fire in Unit A-2 of the Town Creek Condominiums at 355 West Deloney Avenue in Jackson. Jackson Police were called to the fire at 4:12 a.m. and evacuated 15 units within the building. Dark gray smoke was coming out of the second story of the three-story building. Fire was found in a bedroom and quickly extinguished. The occupant was evaluated and transported to St. John’s Medical Center by ambulance. Battalion Chief Brian Coe credited smoke detectors for an early warning to residents of the unit. “Due to the great work of all emergency responders on scene, the fire resulted in minimal damage to a bedroom.” There was smoke damage throughout the entire unit. Coe added, “This is a great opportunity for community members to check their smoke detectors within their residences.” The cause of the fire is under investigation.
