BYUI conservation saves $87,000

Rocky Mountain Power has recognized Brigham Young University-Idaho with its 2017 Wattsmart Business Idaho Partner of the Year Award. The award recognizes the university’s efforts to be more energy efficient. The school implemented programs that yielded savings of over 1.24 million killowatt hours. That is the equivalent to the amount of energy used by 140 homes in a year. “The university has been working in partnership with Rocky Mountain power to continuously identify new opportunities to improve efficiency on campus,” said Tim Solomon, Rocky Mountain Power regional business manager. “They have been a stand-out organization in their work to save energy and protect the environment.” The utility provided the university $144,175 in incentives to help complete 18 energy saving projects. The incentives covered LED lighting, heating and cooling, and roofing updates. Together, that led to $87,000 in energy cost savings. “Working together we can pass that saving on to students and be good stewards of the resources that we share,” said Kyle Williams, BYU-Idaho Facilities Management operations director. “Together we can make a difference at the university, in the community, and the environment through cooperative planning and efficient use of our resources.”
